Travel Tips For A Perfect Summer Holiday to North East India

Before heading out for a holiday, a little bit of planning & research is handy to make the most of your trip.

Local Cuisine & Food

This groundwork is especially important for people with strict food habits, as some regional cuisine caters to non-vegetarians only. So, it is strongly recommended to read up about the local cuisine, if you do not indulge in certain types of meat or none. The region is predominantly non-vegetarian in their food habits, so vegan travellers should either pack some comfort food of your choice or plan it beforehand a selection of local dishes to stick to. For non-vegetarians though, the north-east India cuisine is an explosion of flavours in their taste buds, given the local food habits of including various types of meats in their meals.

Prepare for Weather Changes

Blessed with an extended rainy season, the region witnesses a lot of unexpected rainfall in the dry season of summers too. So, pack some rain friendly outerwear to keep you warm & dry. It is advisable to carry waterproof jackets since an umbrella is quite inconvenient while travelling. And most importantly mosquito repellents – think of it as a wildlife adventure visiting the rural parts of North East.

Travel & Live The Old School Way

Given the hilly & rugged terrain of the region, the infrastructure is still being built for better internet availability across the villages, towns & cities. So, brace yourself for patchy internet connections. Plan for internet dependent activities to be completed in major cities only, as there you will get higher data speeds. There are frequent power cuts in many regions and hence power banks and torches with extra batteries are recommended too.

Experience a Village Stay

While most resorts & hotels offer comfortable stays with all the modern amenities, the regular visitors to the region strongly recommend village stays to get a chance to experience the lifestyle & local culture from a close quarter. Homestays & village stays are easily available on our east India travel packages. Ask for an inclusion in your itinerary, as all of our packages & weekend getaways are highly customizable for preferred changes & upgrades

Attempt A Road Trip

Lastly, try to include at least one road trip in your travel plans. Even if you are planning a quick weekend getaway, ask for a vehicle to be arranged in order to enjoy scenic countryside drives. The meandering roads go through some of the best natural & man-made wonders like the famous root bridges of Meghalaya.
